It is
the season of weddings, of bridesmaids, of bestmen and everything in between.
No wedding in India is complete without jewelry. The bride adorned from head to
toe in traditional bangles, nose rings and jadau and the groom elegantly
dressed in a white suit teamed with a pristine diamond engagement ring. Such
are the scenes that unfurl during the wedding season. But what happens to your
expensive jewelry when you travel miles for your honeymoon. Just follow these 5
tips to keep your jewelry safe on the move!
1.
Sunscreen is good for you, bad for your stones
While
sunscreen protects your skin from harmful UV radiation, it often forms a coat
on your gemstones and jewellery, which reduces refractive and reflective light.
This means that your stones won't look so blingy. The best thing to do would be
to leave your jewelry safely locked at home when you’re out in the sun or on
the beach.
2.
Organization is the key while traveling
When
jumbled together, your jewelry doesn't always work as a cohesive unit. For
instance a diamond can scratch a pearl or a bracelet can get entangled in a
necklace. When storing jewelry for travel, make sure to organize the pieces in
such a way that they don’t interfere with each others. You can pack pieces in
individual soft cloth pouches or lined jewelry boxes to prevent scratching,
dulling, and the dreaded tangling of chains.
3.
Safety first
Always
check if the hotel room you’re staying in has a facility of safe deposit boxes.
Never leave fine jewelry unattended in a hotel room, a rental car, or on a
lounge chair—even if you’re just popping over to the bar for a mojito.
4.
Shopping for something new - Do your research.
Naturally
you would have the urge to splurge on some brand new jewelry. Most vacation
destinations are also prime shopping destinations. Always make sure that you
are buying jewelry from a jeweler thats been in business for several years.
When in doubt check the retailer’s reputation online and also check the store’s
return policy. Most reputed retailers offer a 30 day money back guarantee
wherever you are.
5. Make
sure your jewelry is adequately insured.
If you
decide to bring an expensive piece to your honeymoon like your wedding ring, a
family heirloom or a priey watch consider consulting an insurance agent to
ensure a fair replacement if the article is lost, stolen or damaged.
Follow
these 5 simple steps and have a worry free honeymoon. Always remember to clean,
organize and polish your jewelry from time to time. This will keep your
precious stones safe and free from damage.
What is
the perfect wedding ring? There is no straight answer to this question, but for
a ring to qualify as perfect it has to score on two points. One, it must be
something that your fiance would be proud to wear and two it must be a symbol
of the everlasting love you share with your better half. It sounds simple but
it’s a lot harder to pick the perfect ring than it seems. Buying a wedding ring
is a costly affair, so you don’t want to go wrong with the choice. So how can
you ensure the wedding ring you picked is the perfect one? Read on for answers.
1.
Learn all you can about her tastes
All
women dream about their perfect wedding from the time they were kids. Women who
have been in a long term relationship and are thinking about marriage, often
start talking with their friends and relatives about their ideal wedding ring.
If she has never told you about her personal preferences, you can ask her close
friends and family members. Sisters, cousins, mothers, and best friends can be
the very best sources of detailed information on what sort of ring your future
fiancée would love to be given.
2.
Consider more than the ring
Though
the ring is an item you will use to propose, consider additional factors that
could influence your decision while buying the ring. Factors like, free or
discounted cleaning services, coverage for basic repairs, such as prong tip
repair, assistance trading up to a ring with a larger gemstone, resizing
services, replacing broken gold elements, such as clasps etc. Online websites
like NYDT offer exclusive diamond jewelry for all
occasions and the website is a fantastic place to read about the different
types of options available. They also offer additional services like returns,
lifetime upgrades and free inspections.
3.
Become familiar with the basics of diamond jewelry
Learn
everything you can about diamond jewelry before you take the plunge. Diamonds
are the preferred gemstones for weddings and other special occasions. To get the
best value for money make sure you purchase a diamond which is independently
graded. Each gemstone is graded according to a particular grade. A diamond is
graded on an international standard that measures various qualities of the
stone, including the color and clarity.
4. Dont
make a hasty decision
There
are virtually countless stores and independent designers from where you can buy
your perfect wedding ring, but don’t be in a hurry. The only way to have a
thorough shopping experience is to give yourself a lot of time to consider all
your options. You should take your time; spend a reasonable amount of time in
each store and also consider timing your shopping to coincide with major
seasonal sales.
Buying a wedding ring is the one decision you cannot regret, so decide on your budget,
speak to her relatives and friends, and visit different stores to pick that
perfect wedding ring. It will be all worth it, when you see the smile on her
face. Happy shopping!
“When you love a woman, tell her that she's the one. She needs somebody
to tell her that it's gonna last forever.” The popular lyrics to Bryan
Adams hit song, ‘Have you ever really loved a woman’, tells us that if we've
found our soul mate, we should not deter from letting her know she's the one.
The question is how? How do you profess eternal love? How do you show her you
care? The answer is simple, an eternity ring.
An eternity ring is a symbol of eternal love and commitment. It consists of a round metal band usually gold,
covered with small diamond stones on the entire circumference of the ring or on
one half of the ring. Diamonds symbolizes everlasting love and hence is the
perfect stone to say you care.
However that doesn't mean that
eternity rings and engagement rings are the same. Eternity rings are usually
gifted by husband to wife when they complete a milestone in their relationship.
This milestone could be a wedding anniversary or the birth of a child or some
other occasion of special relevance.
Eternity rings must never be
gifted without a purpose. Granted women are happy when they receive jewelery,
but you want them to be elated and brimming with emotion when you gift them an
eternity ring. For instance, one man described why he chose an eternity ring
for his bride of 50 years. He realized that each stone could symbolize
something important that they'd shared or an adversity that they'd overcome
together. He wrote a beautiful poem describing what each stone meant. One was
for the first time he laid eyes on her. The next was for their first kiss. Then
came marriage, children, their first home, getting through the hardships that
they'd faced together with unwavering commitment to each other. So on. Coming
up with his own meanings made this eternity ring extremely special to his wife
and surely put a smile on her face every time she saw it after that.
A relationship counsellor on
condition of anonymity says, "It's
difficult to make a marriage last in today's day and age. Couples are realising
that making a marriage work is a lot harder than it looks. They are resorting
to couples counseling and training sessions. " Perhaps this is another
indication of the soaring popularity of the eternity ring. Until a decade ago, engagement rings were the
rage but these days couples understand that it takes something extra special to
make relationship work. An eternity ring
is a symbol of that work and commitment.

the eternity ring. Leave your comments in the box below.
An eternity ring is a lady’s
ring, worn on the hand, comprising a band of precious metal set with a
continuous line of identically cut diamonds or other precious stones. It
symbolizes the eternal love in between a husband and a wife and is usually
presented after the couple has been married.
Where did this practice
originate?
It is safe to assume that the
ancient Egyptians, used rings as a token of both eternal love and life. Early
examples found were a rather ordinary circle of metal, set with stones either
on the top half of the ring or throughout the entire circumference of the ring.
When did “Eternity Rings” come into
existence?
In 1960, diamond merchant De
Beers was responsible for starting the concept of the eternity ring. However,
the concept was not started with love in mind but was a business decision. At
that time De Beers had a secret agreement with the Soviet Union which required
the purchase of 90-95% of the uncut gems diamonds produced in Russia. It was
fashionable back then for engagement rings to be set with a single large
diamond. However the Russian diamonds were small, often less than 0.25 carats.
To avoid overstocking, De Beers ran a promotional campaign introducing the
eternity ring. A round wedding band which was encrusted with small diamonds on
its entire circumference. This was the world’s first eternity diamond ring.
What to consider when buying an eternity
ring?
The Occasion
There isn’t an inappropriate
time for gifting your better half an eternity ring, however the symbolism of
the ring needs to be kept in mind when gifting. A special day, like a 10th
anniversary or the birth of a child or your honeymoon, can all be great
occasions to surprise your wife with an eternity ring.
The Style
Eternity rings are available in
two styles, namely full styles and half styles. To put it simply, full style
eternity rings are studded with stones on the entire circumference of the ring.
Now what this means is that the stones are a lot smaller and cover the entire
ring. Since the ring is completely studded with stones, these rings have a
tendency to be uncomfortable to wear, however it all depends on the size, cut
and the make of the piece.
Selection of the stone
Eternity rings are most
commonly set with diamonds, but stones such as emeralds, rubies and sapphires also are popular choices.
Some rings include a variation, such as diamonds alternating with rubies, all
around the ring. The shape of the stones is as important as the type of stone,
with oblong or square stones usually being preferred over round stones.
Finally how you wear the ring,
is also important. Most women wear the ring on the same finger as their wedding
ring often replacing the wedding band with the eternity ring. Of course, the
choice is yours and yours alone.
